Best Lasts

She met him by the curb of the road,
A charming, well dressed guy.
They spoke at length, fell in love and decided to get married,
But it wasn't all that rosy for them,
The grounds began to shake.
He was not a man of his words: unfaithful and a flirt!
They separated many times till they couldn't hold.
His words were harsh and actions were rude,
He didn't show love and care anymore,
She was greatly wounded and hurting inside,
She couldn't build the future she dreamed with him.
Days went by and she made a decision to move on.

There came another suitor,
Seeming nice, calm and clean,
Will he stand the test of time?
Will he prove to be what he seem like?
Well, he was rich, classy and lived an expensive life,
He his type of guy every woman will go after: dark, tall, handsome.
She was head over heels for him.
They stayed for years without any obvious signs of love, intimacy, affection and attention!
He was never available, today here, tomorrow there!
That was weird!
What in the world was this guy up to?
Feeling frustrated, she began to ask him questions: am I not a woman enough for you?
You've never made love to me ever since! Any problems?
No, I'm not ready! He would say.
Until the truth was revealed,
He had another man as his wife!
So then why use another lady as a cover?
She felt shameful after all these years of being together!
By now, she was deeply brokenhearted and broke away for good.

There came along a friend,
He didn't seem to have much but ambitious and forceful: He had a vision!
He had tried several times to catch her attention, but to her,
He doesn't look befitting to her!
What would my parent say? My mates will laugh at me,
He doesn't even have a car,
He doesn't match my class and status,
I'm educated, enlightened and beautiful but
He doesn't look flashy and I'm not sure he can even afford my dinner!
On and on she thought to herself.
He proposed marriage to her but she laughed the first time,
Would she say 'yes' to him?
Well, next was their wedding!
Together they fulfilled great dreams and lived a happily after life!
Indeed, only the best for you will last!
