Best Lunch Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Best Lunch

Best lunch

A man who sat in car
-ate apples bite by bite
-he had found the fruits
-fallen off some tree,
-abandoned and lonely

The unripe apples had
-sick spots, were unripe

But that was his lunch, food
-he worked and still poor
-though worked hard; as mule
-in each bite, one could see
-dignity of the man with pride

As hero, role model, commanded:
- to himself: "Swallow, keep silent;
-eat less and get respect
-avoid causing more shame…"

In distance, observer admired
-the neat thing he observed
- "Felt bad and embarrassed
-watching him or comment
-on a man, so great…"

Therefore he, ate his words…
-and sat back deep in though:
- "While world has such people,
-hard working and honest
-countries and nations
-can still have love, hope
-for better tomorrows…"

And the man of apples
-wiped his mouth, joined friends
-acted as if he just had had the best-ever
-lunch of life, which a man could expect,
-capital of his life "work hard and be honest."

Watcher's eyes enjoyed what was exposed at the time.
