Best Warmth Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Best Warmth

Best warmth

I have benefited from females'
Chests and breasts in occasions.

Among them was March 1967
It was cold; I was a cadet
Young; and fit as is a warrior…
On return from my brother's engagement.
We tracked the jungle-path of Mashhad to Tehran…
Ten? Twelve? More Busses?
Truly a long caravan.

And ferocious was weather, the worst ever
Cold, snow and ice…everywhere.

Now and then a bus or more slipped and got stuck.

Men were less than women
Mostly with an excuse
But crazy was I,
All over…

My reward…

Women's only available gift
Prompt and in humbleness
In the world that saw no man
They used their de-icing machines
De-iced my frozen gears on their chests
And by the heat of their breasts
In alternative turns,
Happy to help the right man
In the world that saw no real man.

We kept silent
I with the pleasure
Women with the joy
And men with confusion
Or…
Possibly with disgust
Or with hate and regret! ! !
And still somehow? ? ?
