One faintly scented rose
You handed me that day,
You plucked it where it grows,
A plea for me to stay.
That long remembered walk,
The air alive with musk,
Our whispered lover's talk
That echoed through the dusk.
How resolute our dream,
We parted, never feared
How quickly it would seem
Unsteadfast love had reared.
Love's changing fickle mood
As petals from a rose,
A moment's joy renewed
That briefly comes, then goes.
One single scented bloom,
A pledge to seal a vow,
Its perfume fills my room,
Where is that promise now?
