Betrayed With A Kiss (Holy Thursday) Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Betrayed With A Kiss (Holy Thursday)

Jesus was betrayed today
By someone he knew and loved
over 2000 years ago
On a trying and sad day

Bound and led away
Beaten and laughed at
and thrown in a cell
Where he was beat like hell

I can't comprehend
the betrayal and the pain
The know fate awaiting
The prayers seemingly in vain

They spit at him and laughed
and split his back with a whip
They kicked him in puddles of blood
They punched him and split his lip

Someone humble, wise and kind
The guards who beat him were in the wrong and blind
To humiliate a man who would be condemned to die
In just a little while, and they did it with a smile

Against the thought of this
My own sadness I must dismiss
thinking of the irony
That he was betrayed with a kiss
