Better Poem by Amanda May Moore

Better

Have you ever felt like a song
Describes your life perfectly?
The words are just so strong.
It feels like it is about you specifically.
As if the song is telling the world
Of your feelings. Being swirled
Into the airwaves as the number one hit.
It makes me wonder if they should have a permit,
They should have asked me first if it was okay.
Okay to share my innermost love on display.
Sure I know that all of this sounds cliché,
But honestly—it hurts, never will it allay
What happened. It does tell me who I am
Which is not something I wished, should be condemned.
“It breaks my heart, ” she bellows, as do I
It is not on the music that I rely,
But it is so true:
“I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds”
I feel as though those words,
Describe me like the birds.
So plain and simple,
From here to Constantinople.
Only if the lyrics weren’t so true,
Then maybe one and one could be two.
