Somewhere between the lines of us,
You and me, together but apart.
Won't you take a glance at me?
But again a sigh to myself,
For acting like I care.
The end is obvious, is it not?
Yet I let things be the way they are.
Tell me you care, even as a lie.
The things I say in my head,
Sanity's close to the door.
I know it's not that easy,
Pretend for my sake please,
Crumbs of feigned concern
'Too much of an ask'
I say before you leave.
Somewhere between the lines
Of what we were, not long from now.
It was not your fault nor mine,
Because there was never an 'us'
So I pretend not to care.
