Between Us Poem by Scott J. Shepard

Between Us

We talked about boundaries
and I found myself self-guided by yours.

Easy words picked by the limits of your
layers.

Tear eyed together.

I wanted to reach this feeling.
The one where the ground shakes below
our tiny toes;

and breaks between our fingertips
to intertwine sometime soon.

We talked about how God found you,
scared under the yellowing moon
that reflected in your eyes.

Tear eyed together.

We waited for a moment of relative
relapse and one reason not to
go back.

An earthquake between us.
