Beyond The Wall Poem by Dale Levy

Beyond The Wall

Down the dimly lit hallway, pass the bars and door
Is a world never seen by those who lives seem more pure.
Those on the outside could not possibly know, that
Down the dimly lit hallway exists despair and yet hope
Beyond the Wall is a world where each one tried to cope.
Try to imagine a place where freedom had been taken
There is dense darkness felt to the very core,
A place where dignity and dreams have been disrupted and shaken,
The emptiness permeates the souls who so desperately implore.
As each juror stared so motionlessly and stern,
The memory of their stoic stance will forever be etched in mind,
To recall a sentencing although truly just,
Yet, the contrite spirit will humbly entreat for far less time.
Circumstantial evidence could not be ignored
The facts vividly were shown with crystal clarity.
Finally, the anticipated closing statements,
Lasting impression that were so cold and disparaging
Each sunrise unfolds another day of solitude to ponder
Beyond the Wall allows the mind an infinity to wonder
Those on the outside are judgmental and unforgiving
Little do they know that beyond the Wall, still there are lives truly worth living.
Unless you have seen beyond the Wall in every closet called a cell
Those on the outside could never understand this empty hell
Yet, down the dimly lit hallway, past the bars and door are those who seem to struggle to endure
They will not give in with morbid tears of pain
They will not give up their desire to stay ever sane
Always knowing tomorrow will come with its hope beyond the Wall
And those on the outside, just beware that you somehow too, do not fall
