Big Birthdays Poem by Bill Wright

Big Birthdays

Oh dear, where did they go,
Another ten years have passed,
I'm pretty sure this decade has gone,
Much quicker than the last.

They say that time is relative,
When you are young it goes so slow,
But then when you get a bit older,
A year passes before you know.

'Big Birthdays', why do we do it,
Why do we celebrate this one,
Is it just a badge of pride,
That's another ten I've done.

We only get three score years and ten,
The Bible used to say,
But new medicine and science mean,
That's not so true today.

So let's rejoice and carry on,
Taking each year as it goes,
Carry on living life to the full,
And toasting those 'big O's'
