Birth Poem by Deborah Cox

Birth

Rating: 5.0

The waters break

as a life writ in water

is begun:

pain gathers

to a massive wave

and crashes down

then gathers again -

in thirty six hours

it will be done.

Stab and flare,

love's membrane

bursts its best,

as, betrayed by a kiss,

it splits

deliverance / a mother's bliss.
