Bittersweet - A Sonnet Poem by Richard St. Clair

Bittersweet - A Sonnet

Rating: 5.0

The high ideals of many folks are laudable,
In prose and poetry great thoughts they sing:
Though in today's din they're mostly inaudible:
Their standards nonetheless seem a good thing.
What better aim than saving our poor Earth
From war, disease or global warming threat:
Responsibility is truly worth
Not only words but useful deeds well met.
Today I feel an optimistic rush,
Though other days my pessimism rules:
From time to time in poetry I'll gush
To comfort all who ride this ship of fools.
Perhaps we're changing deck chairs on Titanic,
But who can live inured in constant panic?

We have many serious problems to deal with. But discussing them through poetry and song somehow seems to lessen the blow and encourages us to remain optimistic. A very nicely written poem.
