Black African Poem by Francis Julian Zewu

Black African

I am black,
Black I was born
And black I will always be!
I'm African,
Africa I was born to
And Africa I belong to
And I am proud to be an African!
Because this is where life was given to me as a creation;
A creation by a supreme creator.
Because this is where I belong to and forever will I remain!
But as at now I am living in a place called home
A place where there is so much corruption and injustice
A place where love and sharingness has replaced greed and selfishness
A place where leaders are lacking vision and mission
A place where men pick up guns to kill fellow brethren with passion without hesitation
A place where men have fought in war for power; for ages
A place where mercy is aging
A place where care and unity is dying
A place where there is no hope nor future
A place where others decide for me
Yes, as at now I am still living like a slave;
A slave to my own brethren
Oh yes! I want to be free!
Free in a land of rich culture
Free in a land of priceless treasure
free in a land of endless pleasure
And free, free, free forever
In a land given to me as a legacy, by my loving ancestors.
