Black Child Poem by Sefofane Shabalala

Black Child

Black child you are on your own, we are being
Caught in the middle of charlotte's web between
Two great nations, using our so-called leaders as
Bishops, pawning us and promising us the great
Kingdom, our forefathers sacrificed for.

I am in isolation while the new world order is
Taking place, I am quarantined and instilled the
Perception that my solitary is saving a life while
The 4th industrial revolution is implemented in this
Dire times of my generation.

Freedom of speech is no more, it's illegal to challenge
The system, my brothers and sisters given fire arms to
Force us in our houses, brutalised in the name of maintaining
Order, yet here I am thought the aim was to save lives,
Black child you are on your own.

Funny how this epidemic caused such dissociation amongst us
As much as it should've unified us, it doesn't make sense for
An essential worker why one would seek fresh air outside
Their house as much it doesn't make sense for the one making
A living on the streets to be treated hostile by another brother
Or sister in uniform whom promised to protect them yet it makes
Sense what William Lynch taught to be instilled within us.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was inspired by the first lockdown that took part on march 2020, i for one didn't appreciate how the Government and the law enforcer treated the people in injustice in sense of curving the covid spread...
