Black Is Poem by Karen GreenJordan

Black Is

Black is the color of a frying pan,
It's the color society uses to label God's man.

Black is a rich color, made from red, yellow and blue,
It's the color the world uses to describe me and you.

Our ancestors fought and died to change this shame,
Now it's our turn to fight this worlds game
.
Just as Harriet Tubman freed slaves through the underground,
That was the beginning in turning blacks status around.

Rosa Parks sat on the front of a bus,
Continuing to fight for our rights is a must.

George Washington Carver developed peanut butter,
A fact in Black History that's rarely ever uttered.

Charles Richard Drew invented the blood bank,
This gift from a black man, the world should give thanks.

Dr. Martin Luther King, he had a dream,
That all people of color be treated the same.

He walked, marched and took a freedom ride,
A Black man who stood with integrity and pride.

He shouted and preached for our equal rights,
Dr. King died trying, he paid a great price.

We all like to say, the white man has kept us down,
But it's time for us to keep our ancestors progress around.

Obama is now our Commander and Chief,
That in it self, should change your belief.

If you have a dream, don't ever let it go,
It to could be a part of our Black History, you know.

Don't allow the color to keep you in place,
Black is a color, its not only your race.

Stop letting the stigmatizum define your face, Black Is.
