How the charters, referendums,
The declarations
Guaranteeing freedom,
Everything but a course
Of man and his history,
Everything but a study in time!

How the abolition of slavery,
The lessons that democracy taught it,
Socialism paving the way for,
But the end of the dynasties in France and Russia
Really painful
And breathtaking!
