Blue Eyes Poem by Joanna Fregoso

Blue Eyes

Your blue eyes barely hold any pain;
They must've told the truth about the ice that fills your veins.
Hold me, hug me, beg forgiveness of me,
But you stand there like stone,
Haphazardly fighting for a love that is now lost.
This is the end if you want it.
And by your absent shrug of shoulders,
I suppose you've just confirmed it.
This is the end if you want it.
And in a split second of apathetic answers
And your deadened eyes
(How could I love someone so cold; so inhuman; so ice.)
I know it's time to go.
Reach for me; fight for me; scream for me;
But you stand there, lifeless, limply,
And I know the truth as it rears it's beautifully broken face at me:
This is the end and you want it.
I've lost loved ones before,
But your lazy attempt in letting me go
Burns my heart and lets me know:
I've met the devil and he has blue eyes.
Blue eyes that shimmer bright.
Hold me; grab me; hug me tight!
One. Two. Three.
You blink at me.
And in that moment of silence,
I grabbed my heart and my life,
and maybe, maybe, one day I'll be alright.
