Boat People Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Boat People

Boat people

Boat People are news everywhere
Vietnam’s
Escapees, crowded, then capsized.

Such talks are thorns in eyes
Their needles, Syringes
Poisonous; deep in heart.

Remind of anchored ship, Canada.
(Indian refugees were forced out.)
Mediterranean, the bodies belly up.
Africans and Yemen’s, Syrians
Killed in sea by thousands.

First it was Britain
Londoners ruled both side.
Bombay side kicked too hard
Anchored ship with turbans
Was kicked back by Hudson.
London’s torch died and went
Bastard-child of London, USA
Did the same, failed in war;
Vietnam, child of whore, a bastard
Did the same; ran away.
Rubble was for friends and slaves.
(Too scared, they ran too, for the boats.)
Now bombs fall on head of innocents.
(Airplanes, navy ships and drones)
From the Saudi, UAE, Persian Gulf’s dictators
These friends and slaves of Europe.

Boat people
Boat people
Let’s unite against the brutal.
Leave the dhows, it’s their time.
