Books Poem by Frank Letras

Books

Fewer things in life have given me
The same pleasure as a good book
Although I’ve read some real duff ones
Not even worth a second look
But when you open the cover
Of a really good story
Well then you soon discover
That you will not be sorry
To get caught up in a tale
And to ‘suspend all belief’
My friend you will not fail
To read, read without relief.
It’s the thrill of the novel
It’s the power of the written word
I don’t mean to grovel
But isn’t ‘the pen mightier than the sword? ’
The stories that I have read
Have taken me to places
That I could not have imagined
Different worlds, different times, different spaces.
To experience the life of a character
That is very different from you
Is something that’s very thrilling
And very simple to do.
All sorts can be found
In the pages of a book
Whether good bad or indifferent
But always worth a look.
