Let The Poet Do His Work Poem by Frank Letras

Let The Poet Do His Work

Let the poet do his work
Why don’t you just let him be
Please just leave him alone
For when he’s writing he’s free.
So instead of hampering him
Why don’t you give him a hand
Watch how his mind works
It’s not hard to understand.
Don’t stand in his way
Sit down at his side
And if these words hurt
Don’t run away and hide.
Don’t skulk away by yourself
Acting like a spoilt child
Instead of getting his attention
You’ll just drive him wild.
Let the poet do his work
Why don’t you abide by his wishes
When you first got together
He never promised you great riches.
He tried to warn you in time
That he lived just to write poetry
Why after all this time
Are you beginning not to see.
Let the man write his poems
Can’t you see at least he’s trying
Writing is about all he can do
He’ll be writing when he’s dying.
So let the poet do his work
Don’t wait to hear him say
Go on be big about it
If you can’t help go away.
If you don’t believe what I say
Just look into his eyes
And see if you try to make him choose
… you lose…
Now wouldn’t that be unwise?
When he’s writing he agonises
Let his feelings rule
So let the man do his work
Go on, don’t be so cruel.
