Bourgeois Crime Poem by Frank Adie

Bourgeois Crime

The greatest treason is embezzlement,
To my astonishment, it attracts no punishment,
Looting is not punishable in our clime,
Simply because it is a bourgeois crime.

It is perpetrated by our so-called leaders,
The same people who make our laws,
They hide under the guise of leadership,
To afflict us with untold hardship.

Being a Nigerian is a sentence to hard life,
In this country, suffering and poverty is rife,
A sad condition garlanded on the masses,
By our ignoble political do-gooders.

If this generation don't rise above cowardice,
And stand up for equity and justice,
We will all be accomplices in the crime against our own selves,
And in our own fatherland, we will forever remain slaves.
