Bow-Ties, Buttons, Codpieces And Obsolescence

Rating: 5.0

As iconic on Australian TV
as is now
Tom Gleeson's 'Incorrect'
on 'Hard Quiz',
it won't last -
like the origin of the bow-tie
it will be lost in the past.

Some say it's Croatian -
but I propose,
that in those days
when codpieces were fixed with ribbons,
that gentlemen would tie them on
with extraordinary bows -
to fix attention
to that part of their clothes.

Fashion moved inexorably on:
the bow-tie moved up
to just below the head;
bow-ties on the codpiece
became buttons instead.

Fashion moved inexorably on -the bow-tie replaced. On the changing television trend you have amazingly presented this master piece of work. Thank you very much for sharing this...10
