Brass Shining Necks Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Brass Shining Necks

Brass shining necks
Up and down hills
Mists in a fist of cluster drawn
where gathered opiate swerving
monks in long habits from
old; and slept the night.
That night.
‘All be opiate! All be mist! '
And through them travel we
And through say the breviary
Though it be midnight struck
Though it be mid-night deep.
Come!
Come polar waters blessed from the sacred fount
Whose waters distilled be from the noble mount
Where earth kiss sky
And heavens kiss the cold, cold earth.
