'Break Free! ' Poem by Nicholas Lim

This concrete jungle keeps people
in solitary hold, a wall of stone
brings not security, but a sense of
rebellion, for all that want to
break free of this cage.

Inspection, mockeries of those
beyond these stone-cold barriers,
encapsulate deep thoughts, prison
of all that want to get out of;
out of encirclement.

Alone in this dark night,
flash the eyes of wolves and foxes,
trick you with a treat, then
get away, for they never wanted
you to get out.

I have no pride for the things
which kept me sane and well,
for they have no key.
But all they say is
“Break free! ”
