Break Out Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Break Out

Held captive in the liar’s jail
Through bars so strong and stout
But though God’s truth would pay the bail
We sit in chains of doubt

We doubt because the lying cheat
Wears sweet disguise so well
In subtle ways he’ll oft defeat
And lead us off to hell

We doubt because of things we’re taught
False doctrine clothed in light
They’ll say its Jesus’ true report
Yet Christ is not in sight

Yet Jesus came His life to give!
He came to set us free
In righteous praise Christ said He’ll live
And through such deeds will we!

Instead we’re bound with Satan’s chain
Restrained through lies we’ve heard
Like dogs to vomit, we turn again
Rejecting still God’s word

Religion, is the devil’s tail
His horn is our desire –Jas.1: 14
Thus through his charm we often fail
And so to end in fire

The liar twists Salvation’s code
The Father’s word of life
It’s hard to kick against the goad
To be a faithful wide

We must break free his yoke of lust
Allow our chains to fall
Turn self-desire to lifeless dust
And answer, Jesus’ call
