Breathe (Consider The Alternative) Poem by hollie ash

Breathe (Consider The Alternative)

sometimes you think you've traveled past the tangle of emotions.
and one phone call slams you back to that broken place.
so breathe, because sometimes that's all you have left to hang onto.
(which is not such a bad thing if you consider the alternative.)

sometimes you think that the past is buried deep enough not to trip over.
and then it comes screaming through your workday like a freight train.
so breathe, because sometimes that's all you can do right now.
(which is not such a bad thing if you consider the alternative.)

sometimes the pain and rage break through and you can't contain it.
and it evokes feelings you'd hoped were long, long gone.
so breathe, because your premonitions are spot on.
(which is not such a bad thing if you consider the alternative.)

sometimes you want to make sense of insane behavior.
and then you realize that it's the sanity and peace inside you that counts.
so breathe, because the ground you stand on is firm and the wind is at your back.
(which is not such a bad thing if you consider the alternative.)
