Bridge Of Fallen Poem by Greg Gaul

Bridge Of Fallen

From far cliffs one sees a promised land
our leader calls for those courageous
Making a human bridge shapes our stand
deep river crossings, most dangerous
Hundreds make this mortal bridge
heroes lay in line to give their loss

My body lies on this bloody bridge
on backs of brave souls, upon to tread
Little did I think when I started
I'd fall down here soundly dead
Seems it is my mission to be so
I heard with passion the wise one said
with bodies ours to pave this way
so that the others may move ahead
Yet, who truly knows what the future
holds on our way full of fear and dread
Still, most timid troops will stop and turn
away as I trod onward instead

The favored cross and make their claim
raking in spoils, hearts will long remain
Young lives spent in the fight for the cause
deserve generation's praise and applause
There's no greater gift one can do
than give up life so others pass through
