Bright Star Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Bright Star

She entered through a little doorway
Her heart on fire and broken
Swirling ever faster
away from her distant home
in a city unkind
Acrid servitude, notwithstanding
every striving proudness
unable to cry
reaches out desperatly
out of a haze
unexpected sunshine
effortless tendernss
understanding
Swan dives to the safety of his heart
All she ever knew
and all she ever will
she has given away
most freely
as flowers bow before them
hallowed crabapple hallways
distant ancient statues near
the place where she hangs her head
and opens her heart
bearing her breast
and everything else she has left
Just for a moment shared
that means so much
her faith somehow restored
in a moment shared
in a world where caring is free
the half-moon smiles approvingly
as hands interlock
and no words need be spoken
Never to awaken from this dream
frozen in her sky like a bright star
She caresses his hand tenderly
her heart locked in a prayer
