Broken Heart Poem by Phillip Dodham Cormier

Broken Heart

My heart is in two
I lie bloody on the floor
She stands over me
Never, never did I think it would come to this
Her words were like poison to my soul
I am battered and broken
'Why? ' I scream
Why?
She merely laughs
With each laugh my heart shatters more
I am nothing
She has won
She has killed me
Stolen my soul
I gave her my heart for protection
For safe keeping
She promised to guard it
Then I discover the truth
She never wanted it
She never wanted me
I was nothing to her
She was my world
Yet I was nothing
I curse Cupid
I curse Aphrodite
I scramble to put my heart back together
But she stamps on each piece she finds
Faster and faster I weaken
Until I am nothing
