Building Tides Poem by Emma Cookie

Building Tides

We didn't know if we should break or cry
Let the silence build up, bubble over
Into the abyss some may call the sky
To us it was the before, the after.
Before the storm, before our salvation
Before I saw it in the way you stared
Before the clouds, before your destruction
Before your anger left me spared.
After that moment, when lightning struck land
After the day you said never again
When ocean collided with rock and sand
Two people, one lost, the other insane.
So I'll throw myself into the sky's cave
To finally feel love, dead, in my grave.
