Bullets Poem by Jacquelyn Ireland

Bullets

His words hit me like bullets, ricocheting off my heart.
Pain washes over me, hits me like a wave.
I wish I could sweep it away, like ashes
But from now it will stay, soaking me to the bone.

I must remember, I'm strong, I'm a fighter.
I can get through this, don't have to love him.
Can't help it, drinking him up.
This is the last time for me, that I love you.

This I say because I need to make it true
If I still love you, I won't cry over it
The one that loves you only lets you cry tears of joy,
Oh how it's terrible for me, darling.

What a truth: 'The one that loves you only lets you cry tears of joy' - you have much that is important to say: shout it out loud, Jacki!
