Burn Poem by Jodie Louise Pollock

Burn

Rating: 5.0

Piercing your chest with that burning pain,
Like those flames burning a candle,
No control as it burns and singes,
That scorching fire deep and intense,
Gasping for breath as is sizzles and burns,
Pain you recognize but cannot stop,
Ablaze in your soul, ache in your stomach,
Deepening with every day, every breath,
Deepening into your thoughts in addition to your body,
Your mind glued to this one source,
This one throbbing pain,
This burning sensation you suffer through life,

Waking on a morning, it smoulders,
Descending the stairs, it flames,
Eating, unbearable pain as it blisters,
You are used to it but yet you still jolt at the blaze,
Jolting and burning persistently,
Hoping, no longer an option as you feel it lock within,
Everyday, every hour, every second, it's alight,
Burning, hurting, emptying your soul,

Not a relation to a broken heart, no,
But a relation to a disease,
A disease inflicted by yourself,
On your own,
Wishing the sting would fade away,
Wishing time would rewind,
No disease would have occurred, if you had known,
No fire would have been lit, if you were aware,
No pain would have been inflicted, if you had been acknowledged,
No eating disorder would have taken over,
If you’d taken notice,
To the outcome,
To the pain,
To the life.
