But...I Say Nothing Poem by Jodie Mayhew

But...I Say Nothing

A Little Girl....Befriending Mine
Laughing in their Pigtails
Mutual Nods...Her Mother and I
But I Say Nothing.....

That Girl attending High school
Her Friends and Music Loud
Relieved my daughters' not that Sort
And I Say Nothing.....

I Saw her Walking All Alone
Sad...and Quite Forlorn
I Simply Stare and Turn Away
But I say Nothing.....

I've Heard her when she Argues
The Voices Fill The Air
Day in; Day Out...it goes on
And I Say Nothing....

I See Her Battered..See Her Bruise
I Judge..And Make Excuses
Not My Fault She Chose This Path
But I Say Nothing......

I Watch Her Weeping in the Park
She Seems So Drained....So Empty
An Awkward Smile As I Move Past
And I Say Nothing......

I Read about Her Suicide
The Papers say She Jumped
This Girl Was Trapped with No Way Out
And I'd Said Nothing......

I Feel The Pain...Her Mothers' Grief
The Way I Felt My Own
I Hear Her Silent Cries of 'WHY? '
But I Say Nothing........

I Stand Beside Her Family
A Funeral Filled With Tears
My Own entwined with Inner Guilt
And I Say Nothing......

Her Photo Hanging on The Wall
For All of Us To See
And Everyday; It Haunts Me Still
But I Say Nothing.......
