By Riverside So Dear Poem by James Fredenburg

By Riverside So Dear

I watched the stars
come out at night
and fill a deep blue sky.

The shadows grew
and changed their hue
beneath a moon so high.

My heart was rent
my tears were spent
just standing in the wind.

It blew so cold
oh days of old
will never come again.

Yet in my heart
a light still shines
whene'er I think of you.

And so I know
deep in my soul
our love is always true.

Though now in Heaven
you reside
and I still linger here.

I know one day
I'll meet you there
by riverside so dear.
