James Fredenburg Poems

A greenish yellow leaf
from a cottonwood tree
floats peacefully
on the shimmering surface
...

Like a calm
and beautiful river
sparkling and wonderful
your love
...

Sometimes
I just want to be
a beachcomber
living on a houseboat
...

I watched the stars
come out at night
and fill a deep blue sky.
...

Cool and frosty days
refreshing after summer
brisk winds from Canada
make the night sky sparkle.
...

Jasmine rice
hauntingly beautiful music
prayers with incense.
...

As evening fell
on a cold and windy day
stars bravely twinkled
in a faraway darkening sky
...

On a warm summer evening
we walked up the street together
and you were wistfully unaware
of just how beautiful you looked.
...

Oh what can I say about my love?

Her inner essence is sweet
and cannot be captured by words.
...

Imagine for a moment
you are standing under
a beautiful waterfall.
...

The old man
sat down gently
on the park bench
in the warm spring sunshine.
...

And hey
the swirling and flaying
of your beautiful hair
delights me.
...

She reminded me reproachfully
that she liked soft mangos
of course I already knew that
after being married for so long.
...

I remember
when I lived
up in the mountains
I would see

Reflections On A Leaf Floating

A greenish yellow leaf
from a cottonwood tree
floats peacefully
on the shimmering surface
of the Feather River.

Blue dragon flies buzz lazily
and cool green water
flows gently over mossy rocks
while silvery rainbow trout
hover just beneath the surface.

Blue jays screech
and everything else is quiet
the way it is in the mountains
on a summer afternoon.

Sometimes I feel
just like a little leaf
floating down the river
following the currents of God
helping me through white water
before bringing me safely
to a deep and peaceful pool
where I can drift contentedly
in the warm and gentle sun.
