By The Merri River Poem by Francis Duggan

By The Merri River

In a paddock a few miles from old Warrnambool
The black duck are dabbling in a dark Merri pool
The river flows gently as gently can be
Such beauty in Nature there is for to see
In a background of brown intermixed with the green
A landscape artist would feel inspired for to sketch such a scene
Or a photographer may photograph a memory to recall
A beautiful framed image to look at on her or on his bedroom wall
A writer or a poet a story of such beauty a story or poem would write
For others to enjoy for to read or recite
On an old wattle tree the harsh cawing of the black pale eyed crow
In the quiet countryside where the dark Merri flow
On to Lake Pertobe en route to the sea
The beauty of Nature is all around me.
