Bygone Years Poem by Elaine Battersby

Bygone Years

You pass then bye withour even noticing them.
And if you do, you dismiss them as being to grey, to old.
In your percieved importance and arrogance,
you mock their slowness, their faded looks.
Oblivious to their past, their beauty,
their history, wisdom and theire knowledge.
Your lack of insight,
robs you of missed opportunities.
The chance to learn, of bygone times,
of lifes rich, in experience.
In knowing, in love, in service,
belief and pride in their country.
They were not afraid to speak out.
They were not afraid to challenge injustice.
For they had faith and dreams of better times,
for their children, of golden years.
Now that dream has faded.
Lost forever.
Corrupted by the lust for power, for wealth.
And in the stark reality of the morning light
and the certainty of dusk, they see,
they fear their future destines,
Alone, forgotten.
