Cails, Kales Or Annagloor Poem by Francis Duggan

Cails, Kales Or Annagloor

From high Kippagh Lake downhill it does flow
And in Ballydaly to a bigger waterway grow
In fields green and fertile and fields rushy and poor
The river of three names Cails, Kales or Annagloor

Through Feirm, Annagloor, Shannaknock and Liscreagh it ever flows onwards by night and by day
And on through Claraghatlea to the Finnow it babbles it's way
It has been flowing long before the first people to the Barony now known as Duhallow to live in came
As an old waterway that did not havea name

On going back the Seasons to many decades ago
Long before time itself had become my foe
I remember in late Spring on a pleasant evening in May
On the river's green bank i watched the dark otters at play

Such a beautiful sight for a ten year old boy
To live in his memory a lifetimeto enjoy
From the river of three names so ancient in time
The inspiration of the makers of song and of story and rhyme

At a spot called the Lyre not far from the Town of Millstreet
The river of three names with the Finnow river meet
Then on to nearby Drishane and into the Blackwater flow
And into a far bigger waterway grow.
