Calling Daisy Poem by ted de Hallam

Calling Daisy

Father unknown, mother committed
Raised as an orphan as was her sister
At fourteen in service, a taste of those rich lives
That gave her ambition a strength to be likewise
I think she succeeded and though gains were modest
When you've started with nothing survival will attest.

There was food on the table and sibling warmed bed
Enough mortal comfort when others need beg
So here's a small homage, remembrance from one
I'm just calling Daisy
Just calling Mum.

There's much more, of course, more detail to tell
Just like any family all was not well
But all's well that ends well
And though her life's done
I'm just calling Daisy
Just calling Mum.
