Campaigning In Space Poem by Donal Mahoney

Campaigning In Space

One has to be careful
campaigning door-to-door.
One doesn't know

who's behind any door.
Could be someone
who disagrees with us

invites us in
knocks us out
puts us in a coffin

straps us to a catapult
sends us into space
to another planet

where catafalques await
with coffins occupied
by other candidates

except for the one
with our name on it
where we rest up

and wonder why
we knocked on doors
bothering folks with ideas.
