Can't Say Gay Poem by Randy McClave

Can't Say Gay

They screamed that I can't say, "gay"
I wonder is that okay,
I wonder what other words that I can't say
Tomorrow, and today.
What other words are they going to toss away
Could it be the words that I pray,
I wonder how much those words weigh
Now with them I can't play.
So, that only one word which I cannot convey
And to the laws of not speaking it I must obey,
So, if I say that word in any array
I guess I'd be arrested, per se.
I can say, "queer", and "homosexual", and stay
But, to speak, "gay" I must leave, that's a "nay",
But, saying those other words, that's a "yea"
Where from common sense did lawmakers stray.
Will I become the governments prey
I wonder what fines will I have to pay,
I wonder who thoughts or beliefs I would sway
If I would ever say the word, "gay".
