Carnivores Poem by Farina Afrin Malik

Carnivores

Listen well dear
These are not fairytales, you hear
What I am about to tell
Are stories foul and fell
Heed my words when I say
Kindness shall do you away
Tears of sadness you will cry
As every person passes by
You cannot trust a single soul
For in your heart, they will leave a hole
They’ll eat your flesh, whole and raw
And on your bones, they’ll gnaw
It is not the lions of whom I speak
Nor the tigers and predators o’er mountain peaks
HUMANS! I say
They are monsters only held at bay
Lie after lie they shall spew
And pretend to know you through and through
Yet behind your back they will lurk
And exchange for a smile, a devilish smirk
BEWARE! You know
they will tear you to shreds, so leave, go!
But you shan’t and I know why
You too are a monster, hidden in plain sight.
