Cast No Shadow Poem by Ibn Ali

Cast No Shadow

Do you know what it's like to smile and smile
Yet hide inside a thousand frowns
Crowns and molars shown to peers in laughter's form
False veneers, peered through emptiness and scorn
Who am I to blame
Aren't he and I the same
These faults refuse to form a decent queue
Or be civilised in their pursuit
With worn resolve
I walk and cast no shadow
Who'll remember when I'm gone
When I'm gone
I say, as if it that day can't be today
Let her cry, it shows I was a decent man
You can only miss what filled a space
I hope they praise me when I'm dead
And are sincere in what they said
And true
Water is life
And you keep my lips from getting dry
And I can/'/t be parched with you
