Castles Made By Man Poem by Scott J. Shepard

Castles Made By Man

There was some sort of power provided to us
before we knew we had any at all.

A hegemonic hierarchy of invisible will
that became castles to our sandbox days.

Now as our footprints grow smaller in the distance,
a hand lens that could crow the ants suffering
no long possess's such power.

Now we must accuse our glass ceilings wisely
and our escalator flights. Pink or blue collared knots
or a diamond ring that winks forty times.

No longer are sand castles so pristine and
precise with plastic shovels and pillars of pales.

No longer do we fit the mold and so much sooner
will the sky begin to skin our knees.

Our power seekers on the highest riding
swings and the edge of the world just a small reach.
