Castorino Poem by Lucas Gabriel De Oliveira Almeida

Castorino

His hard and short journey began too soon
How many days has he spent under sun and moon
How many loves, how many pains
Has had that men, whose blood runs in my veins?

His father was a reckless, wicked man
Seeing that, someone offered him quite the scan
The deal was bad for family, but he didn't care
My grandfather, a boy at the time, said it wasn't fair
But his father said "I`ll do what I want, and stop me you won`t dare! "

But stop him he did, and a boy at that
The father, outraged, expulsed the brat
At age of fourteen, he had to leave his home and kin
Left alone in this world, he had been...

From the lands of his family, far and above the sea
He headed for Sao Paulo, the metropolis-to-be
Smart as he was, a good job he quickly arranged
And a bit later, he even got engaged!

But a dreamer he was, and not the kind to settle
Left his bride at the altar, my grandfather the rebel
Her brothers swore him death for their family`s shame
Fled the city at once, and he was hardly to blame!

Back home, his father`s lands were bought
And the buyer was the son he had long lost
He was finally back from where he was banned
At the age of eighteen, owner of his father`s land!

One day, at Ouro Fino`s town
He met this beautiful, lovely gal
Tell the rest of the story I won`t bother
For this gal turned out to be my grandmother!

Grandfather,
With all that you`ve been through
You gave me a name I want to live up to
Castorino,
I wish I could`ve met you.
