Catnip Attaché Poem by D.C. Malone

Catnip Attaché

He was a stray cat who'd forgotten how to purr
A traveling salesman who had no home to return
His fingers, thin and hollowed like broken whiskers
His collar, unforgiving like his past eight lives
And suit, stained with lost tales and matted calico
Were widowed in the company of the unloved
As the noise of the subway crashed upon his throat
His only lover, a catnip attaché case
Left behind
