Chains On Me Poem by John Nieuwenhuizen

Chains On Me

Rating: 5.0

I want to escape, never asking for forgiveness
Away from my soul, scared by innocence and betrayal
Away from my emotions, fueled by the love of those close to me
Away from feelings, manifested in my heart, without despair, but with desire
I don't get to get away, it's my chains of damnation as an instrument of judgement

I don't have a place to escape from nothing to call home
My soul was taken by the one, not destined or worthy to have it
My dignity, the forefront of my existence was shattered by lies of life
You left me with an empty soul worthy of nothing, and no one
I can't get away, I can't get away from me or you or anything

I tried to get away, but I am trapped in this life till the end of my days
I can't get Away from the daemons that consume me alive
Away from the pain that kills me slowly without remorse
Away from memories that will haunt me till my days are at an end
Away from myself, Impossible to achieve nirvana

I am nothing to be proud of in the eyes of my young ones
I have no legacy to leave my children or their offspring
Never being worthy of any love or having the ability to give love
Not worthy of the love of my mother nor my father just emptiness
Not worthy of anything that represents life, love or happiness

I am in chains that cannot be broken by anything but the end of days
I exist not in the presence of compassion nor empathy but in remorse
Nor in the ibis of eternal damnation but in living of this life
Life has no place for a shattered soul only for a soul that has false faith
I got away for eternity but not from this life of chains and cages

I can't be hurt further, as there is nothing left to be destroyed
Fear a man left with nothing, when there is nothing left to lose
And rest, as your fight is at an end, trying to prove your worthiness
Not to any one on this earth but to yourself
In this life or the next!

Dear Poet, well written but desperate poem. I wish to echo what Petals said so well.
