Change Poem by Arshia Qasim

Meanings change
As do yearnings
And learning sprouts where you sow unlearning
Change chisels bodies
and reshapes souls
How much thread is used up in darning
the big rip
into smaller holes...

With seasons, there are reasons
to embrace plurality.
The standards of morality,
customs, traditions
conditions...
all change....

I fold the sheet of time to meet
the tender age,
of dancing in the rain
in the mask of insistence
on being sane.
I try, and try...
to walk on the dry....
And he makes sure he gets all the puddles
the ones he can see,
the ones he can be,
but then it gets muddled,
as all the puddles make sure they get me
wet
and yet...

I dare, I steer
through a mass of opposition
all hostile
my guile, futile..
through all these years!
where are these tears?
not in my eyes....
but someone is crying!
the raindrops on the windshield
move up to the sky...
oh hello, good bye!

He said He'll arrange me
to change for the change
(Or the change will change me.) .
Again.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
On a remark by my son as he saw the raindrops moving up the windshield in the moving car.... I realized how our perceptions change. But what if they didn't?
