The moon lived far off yet; we basked her
soft smile of comfort to enliven our life,
and from a distance innumerable;
we earned the warmth of the sun to fuel
our living, with a clear boundary between
good and bad, as set out by conscience
Our names were derived from nature book,
through the lens of existential circumstances,
with meanings that resonated with the bearer
Fondled in a divan of unusual rite, our pure
names were exchanged with corrupt names,
in a lullaby of holiness to lure us to sleep
They taught us to wade the sky and touch
the moon without a wing, till we reach the sun,
and go to heaven in a basin of water
to have a rebirth of holy life
by the sprinkling of water- in the name
of the father, the son and the holy ghost-
three gods in one God!
In a funny drama of change
our names,
our faith,
our life
transfigured millions of blacks
to eleven disciples -- the holy, and the first lie
to transfix and conduct black Africa
to the womb of continual confusion.
