Character Is One Poem by Sherri Vogel

Character Is One

I could have sworn you told me that you have caller ID
Guess last Wednesday when I called it didn't work for me.
I think I let your phone ring three times maybe four
I'm sure you saw my number when you walked in the door.
I'll bet you have a good excuse why you chose not to call
Chances are you probably won't mention it at all.
Well you know what it doesn't matter, I'm tired, I don't care
Say that it was broken you no longer have it there.
The phone technicians took it the trial period ran out
It was just a small device you could live without.
They came to unhook it last Monday about three
You're sorry that is why you did not get back to me.
Go ahead create a story another good excuse
Lord knows that I've heard 'em all - you've put a lot to use.
And maybe I'll believe you or act as if I do
Pretending or just lying always seems to work for you.
I believe you are a nice guy when all is said and done
But certainly lack in qualities and
'Character is One.'
